Upcoming episodes feature one-on-one interviews with Canada’s very own Christopher Plummer (June 3), Paul Gross (June 10) and former Prime Minister Paul Martin (June 17), who addresses his biography Hell or High Water: My Life In And Out of Politics.

It was announced today that the highly-anticipated new SPACE/CTV Original Series THE LISTENER will now receive a special two-night, two-episode premiere, with both broadcasts strategically scheduled to follow summer’s biggest series, SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE, on CTV. THE LISTENER now premieres Wednesday, June 3 at 7 p.m. ET/PT on SPACE and at 10 p.m. ET on CTV (10 p.m. ET), immediately following a two-hour SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE. Episode 2 now premieres in its regular timeslot, Thursday, June 4 at 7 p.m. ET/PT on SPACE and at 10 p.m. ET on CTV, also immediately following SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE. Visit spacecast.com and CTV.ca to confirm local listings.

THE LISTENER is CTV Inc.’s latest original Canadian dramatic series to air on a major U.S. network in primetime. Following the SPACE/CTV/NBC North American premiere, encore episodes of THE LISTENER air Saturdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on SPACE, on demand on spacecast.com and the CTV Video Player at CTV.ca, and on the go from popular online download stores.

A SPACE/CTV Original Production produced by Shaftesbury Films in association with NBC and FOX International Channels, THE LISTENER chronicles the experiences of Toby Logan (Craig Olejnik, The Timekeeper, In God’s Country), as he learns to master his telepathic gift to help people in desperate need while unravelling the truth about his own mysterious past. THE LISTENER also stars Ennis Esmer (BILLABLE HOURS, Young People F*#king) as Osman “Oz” Bey; Lisa Marcos (FLASHPOINT, KEVIN HILL) as Charlie Marks; Mylène Dinh-Robic, (STARGATE ATLANTIS, DA VINCI’S INQUEST) as Olivia Fawcett; and Colm Feore (24, Changeling) as Dr. Ray Mercer.

In the Canadian preview “I’m An Adult Now” (Wednesday, June 3 at 7 p.m. ET/PT on SPACE and 10 p.m. ET on CTV), Toby (Olejnik) rescues a young woman from a fiery car crash, but is then troubled by visions of her missing son.

In “Emotional Rescue” (Thursday, June 4 at 7 p.m. ET/PT on SPACE and 10 p.m. ET/PT on CTV/NBC), Toby receives telepathic visions of an explosion, and is then able to save his former foster brother from an apartment fire. But with a reputation as a tweaker and cooker of crystal meth, the victim becomes the suspect.

THE LISTENER Online Experience at listener.ctv.ca allows visitors to experience the world as Toby does and “hear” people’s thoughts, see their inner-visions, and read their minds. Set in a 360 degree panoramic recreation of Toronto’s Dundas Square, the site is refreshed weekly with interactive features, online exclusive video, and previews of upcoming episodes. THE LISTENER Online Experience was created by Shaftesbury’s Digital Division Smokebomb Entertainment in conjunction with SPACE and CTV.

THE LISTENER also airs Saturdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on SPACE.

Barbara Williams, Executive Vice President, Content, Canwest Broadcasting officially unveiled the Fall 2009 Primetime Schedule for Global Television at Toronto’s historic Distillery District earlier this morning.

“Viewers are in for a real treat,” said Williams. “The strength of our returning hits provides a solid anchor for every night of the week. Add to this the cream of the crop from the new season, and we’ve got a powerful combination that will be hard to top.”

Global’s fall line-up includes the most buzz-worthy show of the season GLEE. From creator Ryan Murphy (“Nip/Tuck”) comes a musical-comedy about a vibrant group of geeky misfits and the resurgence of the school’s unpopular glee club. Also new to the schedule is the animated and loveable Cleveland Brown starring in his very own Family Guy spin-off series, THE CLEVELAND SHOW.

The superb Julianna Margulies (“ER”) returns to the small screen in THE GOOD WIFE, as a scorned politician’s wife who must persevere beyond a very public scandal in her hometown of Chicago. Meanwhile on the west coast, hip-hop recording artist, LL Cool J (“Charlie’s Angels”) and Chris O’Donnell (“Scent of a Woman”) join forces to lead a team of undercover surveillance investigators in NCIS: LOS ANGELES. Last, but certainly not least, the sexy, wild drama of MELROSE PLACE is back. Fans will revisit the trendy stomping grounds of the popular 1990’s series with some familiar faces such as Laura Leighton and Thomas Calabro, as well as some new tenants including Ashlee Simpson-Wentz (“Seventh Heaven”) and Canadian Jessica Lucas (“Cloverfield”).

Returning primetime hits include HOUSE, LIE TO ME, NCIS, BONES, THE OFFICE, SURVIVOR, HEROES, BROTHERS & SISTERS, FAMILY GUY and the 21st season of the iconic animated series, THE SIMPSONS.

GlobalTV.com, the country’s fastest growing broadcast site** will provide full access to an amazing roster of returning hits with two all-new additions, Survivor and NCIS, plus many of the latest acquisitions including The Good Wife and Melrose Place.

Much pumps out the beats and raises the heat on June 21 with a new set of MMVAs performers announced today. The 2009 MUCHMUSIC VIDEO AWARDS welcome the quintessentially hip Black Eyed Peas, Canadian beat-master Classified, and hard core rockers Rise Against to the artist line-up ready to take over Much HQ in Toronto. The date to mark is Sunday, June 21 at 9 p.m. ET with the MMVAs 09 RED CARPET SPECIAL at 8 p.m. ET. Previously announced performers include Lady Gaga, Kelly Clarkson, Shiloh, Billy Talent, Alexisonfire, and co-hosts the Jonas Brothers. The party of the season is a guaranteed good time whether fans are live in the crowd or watching from home. Music lovers should stay tuned for more announcements on the celeb line-up soon.

“We can’t wait to get to Canada and show MuchMusic and our amazing fans the New Black Eyed Peas Experience!!!” said the Black Eyed Peas.

“It feels great to be nominated, especially on such a national level,” said Classified. “I work hard on my music and my art and when people award you for it, it feels great.”

“Being so proud of the video and the message behind it, we are really excited that so many people embraced it across Canada,” said Tim McIlrath of Rise Against. “Being nominated for the Best International Video Of The Year provides the video and the message behind it, the opportunity to be shared with that many more people, so we thank MuchMusic, the Canadian viewers, and our die-hard fans for providing us that opportunity. We can’t wait to play live for you at the MuchMusic Video Awards, see you then!”

Black Eyed Peas

The Black Eyed Peas are back in business with their brand new release, The E.N.D, out on June 9. This hip-moving, hyperactive dance album has already taken the club world by storm with its #1 single “Boom Boom Pow”. The Black Eyed Peas’ are making their second MMVAs appearance, bringing yet another high-energy, air-pumping performance to MMVAs fans.

Classified

With more than 10 years of experience on the music scene, rapper Classified became successful by his own rules. Through his own music label Halflife Records, he has produced other artists and helped his beloved N.S. scene gain notoriety. Classified won the 2006 MMVAs Best Rap Video and this year he performs for the first time on the MMVAs stage.

Rise Against

Rise Against make their first appearance at the 2009 MMVAs. Known for their political musical edge, the Chicago quartet bring a distinctive punk sensibility to this year’s MMVAs. Official sponsors for the 2009 MMVAs include Pepsi, Nokia, Molson, Subway and Virgin Mobile.

The debut of Conan O’Brien on last night’s THE TONIGHT SHOW WITH CONAN O’BRIEN on /A\ was the most-watched late night talk show on Canadian television last night, more than doubling the season average of THE TONIGHT SHOW WITH JAY LENO. Preliminary overnight data reveals that 328,000 viewers watched the series premiere at 11:35 p.m., up 128% compared to season-to-date averages. The premiere was an overwhelming hit with younger viewers, with more than seven times as many A18-34 viewers than average.

In O’Brien’s first show at the helm, he spared no time introducing viewers to his irreverent, self-deprecating humour surrounded by his original LATE NIGHT sidekick Andy Richter and band leader Max Weinberg. “Thank you very much (please!) it’s coming across as angry now,” O’Brien greeted the standing-O audience at his new studio. “At least we know the applause sign works, that’s nice.” O’Brien’s inaugural guest, comedian/actor Will Ferrell riffed about his new film Land of the Lost before closing with a special song he had prepared for the occasion. Pearl Jam closed out the evening.

In tonight’s episode, Oscar-winning actor Tom Hanks sits down with O’Brien along with musical guest Green Day. Tomorrow, Julia-Louis Dryfus, Bradley Cooper, and Sheryl Crow pop by the studio. Gwyneth Paltrow, Joel McHale, The John Mayor Trio, and Ryan Seacrest round out the week.

LATE NIGHT WITH CONAN O’BRIEN airs Monday-Friday at 11:35 p.m. ET on /A\.

HANK (/A\)

Executive produced by and starring Kelsey Grammer (FRASIER), Hank Pryor (Grammer) is an industry titan who suddenly finds himself out of work, almost out of money and around a wife and kids for whom he’s never made much time. Hank moves the family back to River Bend, Virginia, the small-town site of his first business success, fancying himself a corporate phoenix who will rise from the ashes. But living in a smaller house, in a smaller town, in a smaller, well, life, isn’t what Hank thought it would be. Hank’s wife Tilly (Melinda McGraw, MAD MEN) expects Hank to put aside his all-business attitude and become an actual part of the family – to be a real father to his opinionated 15-year-old daughter and odd 10-year-old son. Complicating matters is the presence of Tilly’s brother, Grady (David Koechner, Get Smart), who has always envied Hank’s success and is now delighted to be around him in his darkest hour. Despite his recent setbacks, however, Hank is confident he’s on the road back to the top.

Cast: Kelsey Grammer (FRASIER) as Hank; Melinda McGraw (MAD MEN) as Tilly; David Koechner (Get Smart) as Grady; Macey Cruthird (HOPE & FAITH) as Maddie; Ryan Wynott (The Brothers Solomon) as Henry.
Credits: EP: Emmy Award-winner and multiple Emmy Award nominee Tom Werner (The Brothers Solomon), EP: Multiple Emmy-Winner Tucker Cawley (EVERYBODY LOVES RAYMOND), EP: Kelsey Grammer (FRASIER), EP: Mike Clements (THE LIFE & TIMES OF TIM)
Production Company: Bonanza Productions Inc. in association with McMonkey Inc., Grammnet Productions, Werner Entertainment and Warner Bros. Television.

THE MIDDLE (/A\)

This timely comedy explores the challenges and triumphs of trying to raise a family in today’s difficult economic climate. Frankie Heck (multiple Emmy Award-winning Patricia Heaton, EVERYBODY LOVES RAYMOND) is a superhero. Well, no, not an actual superhero – but it sometimes seems that way, as getting her kids Axl (Charlie McDermott), Sue (Eden Sher, SONS AND DAUGHTERS) and Brick (Atticus Shaffer) out the door for school every morning is a surely a super-heroic act. Middle aged, middle class and living in the middle of the country, this harried wife and working mother of three uses her wry wit and sense of humour to try to get her family through each day intact. Frankie has a job (not a career) selling cars at the town’s only surviving car dealer; her husband, Mike (Neil Flynn, SCRUBS), is a manager at the local quarry. In between juggling shifts and picking up fast food dinners eaten in front of the TV, Frankie and Mike raise their kids with love and solid Midwestern practicality.

Cast: Multiple Emmy Award-winner Patricia Heaton (EVERYBODY LOVES RAYMOND) as Frankie; Neil Flynn (SCRUBS) as Mike; Eden Sher (SONS AND DAUGHTERS) as Sue; Atticus Shaffer as Brick; Charlie McDermott as Axl.
Credits: EP: DeAnn Heline (HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER) EP: Eileen Heisler (HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER)
Production Company: Warner Bros. Television

THE VAMPIRE DIARIES (CTV)

Starring Toronto’s Nina Dobrev (DEGRASSI: THE NEXT GENERATION), THE VAMPIRE DIARIES is based on the similarly named novels, written by LJ Smith, about two undead brothers. It’s Elena’s (Dobrev) first day back at Mystic Falls High School since the tragic death of her parents. Along with her Aunt Jenna (Sara Canning), Elena tries her best to look after her troubled younger brother, Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen, EVERWOOD), and salvage what family they have left. The first day is already shaping up to be a struggle for Elena until she meets the mysterious new kid at school, Stefan (Paul Wesley, AMERICAN DREAMS). What Elena doesn’t know is that Stefan is a vampire, constantly resisting the urge to taste her blood. As their undeniable connection grows deeper, Stefan’s dangerous older brother, Damon (Ian Somerhalder, LOST), shows up to wreak havoc on the town of Mystic Falls – and claim Elena for himself.

Cast: Nina Dobrev as (DEGRASSI: THE NEXT GENERATION) as Elena; Paul Wesley (AMERICAN DREAMS) as Stefan; Ian Somerhalder (LOST) as Damon; Steven R. McQueen (EVERWOOD) as Jeremy; Katerina Graham (17 Again) as Bonnie; Sara Canning as Jenna; Candice Accola as Caroline; Zach Roerig (AS THE WORLD TURNS) as Matt; Kayla Ewell (THE BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL) as Vicki; Michael Trevino as Tyler.

THE BEAUTIFUL LIFE (/A\)
From the cutting-edge network that brought us GOSSIP GIRL and executive producer Ashton Kutcher comes a new fashionable drama that explores the catwalks and catfights that come with fleeting fame. Two teenaged models are about to discover the cut-throat world of high fashion for themselves – Raina Collins (Sara Paxton, SUMMERLAND), a stunning beauty with a secret past, and Chris Andrews (Ben Hollingsworth), a strikingly handsome Iowa farm boy. When Raina makes an unforgettable impression at a show introducing the new line from designer Zac Posen, she steals the spotlight from her friend Sonja (Mischa Barton, THE O.C.) who is desperate to reclaim her standing as the reigning supermodel after being out of the country for mysterious reasons. Sonja keeps the reasons for her disappearance from the other models and agent Claudia (Elle Macpherson, FRIENDS), who was left to cover for her while she was away. While Raina and Sonja live at the top of the fashion food chain, Chris is starting at the bottom. Raina brings Chris to the “models’ residence” where she lives along with other young hopefuls, including Marissa Delfina (Ashley Madekwe), Issac (Corbin Bleu, High School Musical) and the current alpha-male-model known as Kai (Nico Tortorella). With all the drama that comes with the industry, Chris is left to question whether he can survive in this world of dangerous excess and fleeting fame.

CTV, Canada’s #1 network, and /A\, now Canada’s third-ranked private network, revealed their Fall 2009 programming lineup and schedule today. The announcement was made by Susanne Boyce, President, Creative, Content and Channels, CTV Inc.

“In yet another tumultuous year, we’ve remained focused on creativity,” said Susanne Boyce, President, Creative, Content and Channels, CTV Inc. “Staying #1 requires stability, flexibility and surprise. Strategic moves last year resulted in this past season’s biggest hits, while /A\ became a destination network with remarkable growth. We remain committed to producing original Canadian programming that stands shoulder to shoulder with the best on our schedule.”

CTV will end the 2008/09 broadcast season as Canada’s #1 network among total viewers and A25-54 for the eighth consecutive year, and Canada’s #1 network among A18-49 and A18-34 for seven years running. As the result, CTV’s stable, powerhouse schedule requires little tinkering. CTV sees the addition of two new series this fall: the new health and wellness talk series THE DR. OZ SHOW, from Oprah Winfrey’s Harpo Productions and Sony Pictures Television, in place of GENERAL HOSPITAL, which moves to /A\; and the fashionable new Thursday-night drama THE VAMPIRE DIARIES, starring DEGRASSI’S Nina Dobrev.

Also coming to CTV in 2009/2010 is the eagerly anticipated Original CTV Series THE BRIDGE. Starring Aaron Douglas (BATTLESTAR GALACTICA) as controversial police union head Frank Leo, THE BRIDGE is a gripping one-hour drama about police, power and politics, currently in production and set to premiere on CTV and CBS in mid-season.

/A\ blasted onto the conventional landscape this season, with audience growth of nearly 30%, to become Canada’s fourth network. Building on that momentum, /A\ sees five new programs join its surging schedule: FLASH FORWARD, this fall’s biggest buzz series; HANK and THE MIDDLE, two new comedies starring sitcom veterans Kelsey Grammer and Patricia Heaton, respectively; THE BEAUTIFUL LIFE, the new drama starring Mischa Barton that goes behind the scenes of the world of modeling; and the mystical drama EASTWICK, based on the hit movie and acclaimed novel.

With 16 of the Top 20 programs in Canada in 2008/2009, CTV and /A\ have a strong stable of proven performers, all of which return next season (save ER). Back this fall on the CTV schedule are last season’s #1 new program, SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE CANADA; the #1 Canadian drama, FLASHPOINT; breakout hit THE MENTALIST, and the #1 television series overall, GREY’S ANATOMY. Top 20 hit DANCING WITH THE STARS returns to CTV while reality favourite AMERICA’S TOP MODEL comes to CTV for the first time. Also returning are an enviable list of Canada’s most-watched, Top 20 series: CRIMINAL MINDS (#4), CSI (#6), THE AMAZING RACE (#7), CSI: NEW YORK (#9), DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES (#10), CSI: MIAMI (#12), and LAW & ORDER: SVU (#15), among others.

Returning to the /A\ schedule this fall are Canada’s #1 comedy, TWO AND A HALF MEN, paired with cult hit BIG BANG THEORY, as well as Canada’s #1 new imported drama, FRINGE. Also returning are proven performers MEDIUM, LAW & ORDER, GOSSIP GIRL, PRIVATE PRACTICE and CASTLE, among others.
