June 2009

MTV2 – Friday, June 5 at 11 p.m. ET/PT (60 min.)

In a way that they’d never be able to experience in person, MTV WORLD STAGE brings viewers concerts and specials from the biggest artists across the globe without having to leave the sofa. This episode, Kaiser Chiefs & Panic at the Disco rock the stage.

If you watched the first week of I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here, you probably know that there was some theft, some crying, an impromptu baptism, a couple of fire dances; oh, and of course, Heidi and Spencer Pratt left and came back, wash, rinse, repeat.

After threatening to leave the show at least half a dozen times, Heidi and Spencer finally gave their I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here resignation on Wednesday night following the live episode. However, as of Thursday, after one night in the comfort of a hotel room and a full face of makeup for Heidi after 3 days with only dry shampoo for a cosmetic, the couple were begging to return. With the reality show villains capturing the show’s highest number of viewers, I was skeptical when they announced that the decision to allow Heidi and Spencer back would be left to the other celebrities participating in the show.

Of course producers and NBC want them back, whether or not their fellow contestants do. According to Angela V. Shelton who was the show’s first cast-off this week, I’m probably not too far off. During a press conference following being voted off I’m a Celebrity, she said,”I think we had a vote, we voted ‘No’ and they’re still getting the opportunity to come back so that shows you how good the voting is,”. That really seems to be the case, because the second contingency to allowing the couple back was that they’d have to rough it by spending the night in the hell hole where they competed in their last challenge. As of Thursday’s episode, they were showing the couple settling into the room even though the other contestants will only be making their official announcement as to whether or not they want Heidi and Spencer to return, so it looks like the villains of I’m a Celebrity are about to come back…again. How long will they make it this time?

Thursday, June 4 – 10pm ET/PT

Though considered by many – including rookie partner agent Ellis Dove (Travis Fimmel) – to be the best in the business, FBI undercover operative Charles Barker (Patrick Swayze) has a style that is nothing if not unorthodox. In pushing Dove to immerse himself more deeply into the characters they create, Barker makes it clear how the stresses and dangers of working undercover make normal relationships impossible. As he and his mentor are tested by cases that pit them against ruthless drug lords, dangerous arms dealers, corrupt cops and deadly killers-for-hire, Dove also struggles with his own secret: he’s being asked to cooperate with an FBI investigation of Barker, who’s suspected of going rogue.

Paris Hilton is once again in dire need of a new BFF. Her search for a new “bestie” returns when PARIS HILTON’S MY NEW BFF SEASON 2 premieres Thursday, June 4 at 9 p.m. ET/PT in a super simulcast on Star! and MuchMusic.

Last year, the world’s premiere celebutante thought she had found the ultimate best friend in Brittany, winner of PARIS HILTON’S MY NEW BFF (Season 1). The two were best pals, but as time passed on, the newfound fame went to Brittany’s head. No longer that cool confidante Paris thought she had discovered in her new sidekick, Brittany was cut loose. Once again, Paris found herself on her own.

Now, 13 girls and one boy are looking to fill the place Brittany – like Nicole Richie and Britney Spears before her – held in Paris’ life. Once again, Paris will put competitors through rigorous challenges that will test their smarts, wit, loyalty, party skills and, perhaps most importantly, their hotness. Only one of them will be deemed worthy of the ultimate prize: to be introduced by Paris Hilton as “my new BFF.” But who is up to snuff in this jet set test?

Is it one of the Jersey girls, Arielle or Elena, or Californians Arika, Nicole, Rachel, and Stephen? Maybe the Southern charm of Texans Katie and Desirae, Louisiana belle Tiniecia or Florida’s Stephanie will win over the Hilton hotel heiress. Or it could be Amanda from Pennsylvania, New York’s Kaitlin or Brooklyn’s own Monica who will sweep Paris off of her feet.

Only one contestant emerges victorious on PARIS HILTON’S MY NEW BFF, and with 14 attention-starved celeb-hanger-on wannabes living under one roof, drama is inevitable. As surely as alliances will be made, they will be broken. Expect to see air-kissing new friends stab one another in the back, gossip to be burning the ears of whomever will listen, and don’t count out the tell-all “burn book” where contestants air out their true feelings about what’s going down.

Viewers can find full episodes and a whole lot more of PARIS HILTON’S MY NEW BFF at www.star-tv.com or www.muchmusic.com/paris.  Fans can also hit up the sites for extra footage, including the show trailer, Paris Hilton music videos, links to mobile and iTunes downloads, and photo galleries.

Follow the exploits of a telepathic paramedic in the new SPACE/CTV Original Series THE LISTENER, premiering Thursday, June 4. Airing at 7 p.m. ET/PT on SPACE and in the coveted Thursdays at 10 p.m. ET timeslot on CTV in simulcast with NBC, THE LISTENER becomes CTV Inc.’s latest original Canadian dramatic series to also air on a major U.S. network in primetime (visit spacecast.com and CTV.ca to confirm local broadcast times). Following the SPACE/CTV/NBC North American premiere, encore episodes of THE LISTENER air Saturdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on SPACE, on demand on spacecast.com and the CTV Video Player at CTV.ca, and on the go from popular online download stores.

A SPACE/CTV Original Production produced by Shaftesbury Films in association with NBC and FOX International Channels, THE LISTENER chronicles the experiences of Toby Logan (Craig Olejnik, The Timekeeper, In God’s Country), as he learns to master his telepathic gift to help people in desperate need while unravelling the truth about his own mysterious past. Set in Toronto, the 13-episode, 60-minute series made its worldwide premiere in March on Fox International Channels in 180 countries around the world, including UK, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Argentina, Mexico, Japan, Korea, Poland, Brazil, and Turkey. The international premiere of THE LISTENER opened to strong audiences, finishing first in its timeslot in virtually all territories*.

“THE LISTENER is yet another example of how Canadian creative is making an impact not just in North America, but around the world,” said Susanne Boyce, President, Creative, Content and Channels, CTV Inc. “With the rise in popularity of genre programming in the mainstream, THE LISTENER has presented a terrific opportunity for both SPACE and CTV to work together on a series that will uniquely appeal to both audiences.”

“The support and enthusiasm we received from SPACE and CTV since the beginning has allowed us to create this internationally successful series,” said Christina Jennings, Chairman and CEO, Shaftesbury Films. “With a strong partnership that also includes NBC and Fox International Channels, THE LISTENER is an excellent example of how broadcasters and producers can work together to create first-rate drama. We’re extremely proud that the momentum for the series has been building and anticipate the show will resonate with SPACE/CTV audiences.”

In THE LISTENER, Toby Logan is a highly skilled paramedic with a secret – he can read minds. Until now, Toby has kept his ability hidden, exploring its possibilities only with his long time mentor and confidante Dr. Ray Mercer (Colm Feore, 24, Changeling). Helping to save lives by providing advance medical and trauma care alongside his energetic partner Osman “Oz” Bey (Ennis Esmer, BILLABLE HOURS, Young People F*#king), THE LISTENER follows Toby as he tries to help people in crisis and, in the process, heal some of his own wounds.

While his professional life is in check, Toby’s personal life could use its own rescue. It’s a good thing he has Oz’s good humour to keep him centered and living in the moment. And with the help of the tough Detective, Charlie Marks (Lisa Marcos, FLASHPOINT, KEVIN HILL) and his ER doctor ex-girlfriend Olivia Fawcett (Mylène Dinh-Robic, STARGATE ATLANTIS, DA VINCI’S INQUEST), Toby realizes his gift can help others. THE LISTENER also stars Arnold Pinnock (LIFE WITH DEREK) as George Ryder, Toby’s boss and Anthony Lemke (RUMOURS, THE LAST TEMPLAR) as Brian Becker, the Detective Sergeant.

Launching May 21, THE LISTENER Online Experience at listener.ctv.ca will allow visitors to experience the world as Toby does and “hear” people’s thoughts, see their inner-visions, and read their minds. Set in a 360 degree panoramic recreation of Toronto’s Dundas Square, the site will be refreshed weekly with interactive features, online exclusive video and previews of upcoming episodes. THE LISTENER Online Experience was created by Shaftesbury’s Digital Division Smokebomb Entertainment in conjunction with SPACE and CTV.  Visitors can also check THE LISTENER website during the weeks leading up to the broadcast for an exclusive sneak preview clip.

In the series premiere “I’m An Adult” (Thursday, June 4 at 7 p.m. ET/PT on SPACE and 10 p.m. ET on CTV), Toby (Olejnik) rescues a young woman from a fiery car crash, but is then troubled by visions of her missing son. Clearly traumatised and frightened by the abduction of her son, Toby is unable to get her to share any information. And as his own fears for the child’s well-being increase, he realises he’s going to have to act quickly to make sense of the mental dissonance that plagues him.

In the second episode entitled “Emotional Rescue” (Thursday, June 11 at 7 p.m. ET/PT on SPACE and 10 p.m. ET on CTV), Toby receives telepathic visions of an explosion, and is then able to save his former foster brother from an apartment fire. But with a reputation as a tweaker and cooker of crystal meth, the victim becomes the suspect. Toby is convinced his foster brother is telling the truth and becomes determined to track down the arsonist responsible. He just doesn’t realise that he will fall under suspicion when Detective Charlene ‘Charlie’ Marks (Lisa Marcos) informs him that the fires look like the work of an emergency responder with a “god complex”.

THE LISTENER also airs Saturdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on SPACE.

Canadian teen rock rebel Shiloh, one of Canada’s hottest new artists, is bringing the attitude, and the party, to MUCHONDEMAND. The 2009 MMVAs performer and nominee sits down with Much VJs to chat about her upcoming MMVAs performance, and rock out with her fans with a live rendition of her hit single “Goodbye, You Suck,” live on Thursday, June 4 at 5 p.m. ET.

The party keeps going with Montreal-based rock group and multiple MMVAs nominees The Stills. They join the punk princess, and their legions of dedicated fans, to premiere their new video for “I’m With You”. It’s yet another case of MOD doubling your pleasure with a solid hour of rock. Fans can be a part of the action by being a part of the live audience and asking questions via text, phone, e-mail, and webcam.

Having burst onto the music scene at the young age of 15, Canada’s own Shiloh is a punk singer/songwriter burning up the charts with her attitudinally adjusted tell-it-like-it-is songs. Signed to Universal Music, she plans to release her debut album, Picture Imperfect, this summer. Dubbed Canada’s #1 Emerging Talent Artist by Billboard in December 2008, Shiloh’s songs can be heard on GOSSIP GIRL, Dr. Dolittle 4, and What Happens in Vegas.

Montreal Rockers The Stills are truly making a name for themselves on the Canadian indie rock scene. Coming off JUNO Award wins for Best New Group of the Year and Best Alternative Album of the Year, the five bandmates are looking to add MMVAs to their hardware for Video Of The Year and Post Production Of The Year for their hit single “Being Here.”
