So You Think You Can Dance Season 5 Premiere Viewer Ratings

SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE got Canadians into the groove last night as 1.43 million viewers tuned into the Season 5 premiere on CTV, up 20% compared to last year (1.2 million). It was the most-watched season premiere ever for the series among younger viewers aged 18-34. Starting out with auditions in Denver and New York, the quick-stepping premiere was the #1 program of the night with total viewers nationally, in key demos and in key markets Toronto and Vancouver, and grew throughout the two-hour broadcast in each of its half-hours to peak at 1.7 million viewers at 9:58 p.m.

US dancers make a splash north of the border just as Canadians have one last chance to prove they can dance at the final stop of the SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE CANADA audition tour which hits Montreal this Tuesday, May 26 at the Théâtre St-Denis (1594 St-Denis Street) beginning at 8 a.m.

Following the summer’s first two-hour dance party, the finale of new CTV drama SOUTHLAND hit 1.02 million viewers at 10 p.m. The series has delivered more than one million viewers for each of its CTV original broadcasts and ends the season as one of the most-watched new programs of the year.

Viewers can catch an encore of last night’s SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE episode this Sunday, May 24 at 7 p.m. on MuchMusic.  The new season continues on CTV, Wednesday, May 27 at 8 p.m. ET (visit ctv,ca to confirm local broadcast times) with the two-hour SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE audition episode, with dancers trying out in Miami and Memphis. On Thursday, May 28 at 8 p.m. ET (visit ctv.ca to confirm local broadcast times) auditions will continue in Los Angeles and Seattle, wrapping up the Season 5 cross-country audition tour for SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE.
