As season 5 of Jon & Kate Plus 8 approaches, premiering tonight at 9pm EST on TLC, naturally the rumor mill is full of speculation on what’s really going on behind the scenes of the hit show. Some sources claim that these rumors are all another publicity stunt to boost ratings for the new season of TLC (which is expected to bring in record breaking ratings for TLC); others claim that the famous, feuding couple are only pretending to be mending their relationship; and others, think something else altogether.

Whatever the real story is, we may find out tonight, but chances are we won’t. Whether Jon & Kate as only pretending to be fighting to boost their shows ratings, or pulling a publicity stunt with the hopes of closing a movie or book deal about parenting and maintaining a relationship while in the public eye, the fabricated plot line will probably continue throughout the season. Perhaps Jon & Kate’s marital problems are real; but we’re not likely to find out if they’re only staying together for the sake of the show, because we don’t get to see what happens when the cameras are off.

What we do know about tonight’s season premier is that Jon & Kate film their interview room segments separately, which might just take away from their characteristic banter that makes the show so entertaining. But how much insight into the marital problems we will see as viewers has yet to be determined, as the Gosselins plan a fifth birthday party for the sextuplets.

Tune in tomorrow for a recap of tonight’s Jon & Kate Plus 8 season premier on TLC, there’s sure to be some drama!
