Two Million Hearts Beat for George Clooney on CTV’s ER

– ER and GREY’S ANATOMY are the Top 2 Programs for the night

Toronto, ON (March 13, 2009) – The return of George Clooney in last night’s episode of ER drew 2.02 million viewers on CTV, its largest audience of the season. Anticipation swelled during the weeks leading up to Dr. Ross’ (Clooney) much-anticipated return, and the result was ER’s most-watched episode in more than two years. ER ended the night as the second-most watched program on Canadian television, following GREY’S ANATOMY (2.16 million), also on CTV. SURVIVOR was a distant third with 1.79 million viewers.

Dr. Ross’ return spiked ER’s audience by 18% in total viewers over season averages, jumping 16% for A25-54 and 18% for A18-49 as well. The episode also featured appearances by past favourites Julianna Marguiles, Eriq La Salle and Noah Wyle, and featured special guest star Susan Sarandon.

With a steady diagnosis for a hugely successful final season, ER fever has been holding all year long, with the series winning its 10 p.m. Thursday timeslot in total viewers and key demos in every single week it has aired. Just three episodes remain before ER takes its final bow after 15 seasons on April 2.

In next week’s ER episode, “Shifting Equilibrium” (Thursday, March 19), it’s Neela’s (Parminder Nagra) last day and everyone in the ER seems to have forgotten that she is leaving. Meanwhile, Brenner (David Lyons) has an epiphany about his troubled past.
