Canadians Team Up in New Mystery Drama Series CASTLE, Premiering March 9 on ‘A’

– Nathan Fillion (DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES) and Stana Katic (Quantam of Solace) form an unlikely crime-solving duo –

Toronto, ON (March 2, 2009) – Starring Edmonton native Nathan Fillion (DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES) and Hamilton-raised Stana Katic (Quantum of Solace, WOULD BE KINGS), the rollicking new drama CASTLE makes its television debut Mondays at 10 p.m. ET/PT following DANCING WITH THE STARS, beginning March 9 on ‘A’ (check Atv.ca to confirm local broadcast times).

Meet Richard “Rick” Castle (Fillion). He’s charming, handsome, a famous crime horror author and the leading man in ‘A’s newest drama CASTLE. But when the NYPD look to him to help catch a copycat murderer based on his books, it would turn the page on a whole new chapter. The sharp, light-hearted hour-long series, compared by Fillion to a modern day MURDER SHE WROTE, follows the unlikely investigator as he teams up with NYPD Detective Kate Beckett (Canadian Stana Katic, Quantum of Solace, WOULD BE KINGS) to help solve strange homicides in New York.

Cross a mystery novelist with a rock star whose fans love him as much as he loves himself and you get Richard Castle. He’s got Jagger’s swagger and a James Bond’s way with the ladies. And although the handsome writer seems to have everything, including fame, fans, and females, he’s grown weary of it all. In fact, he’s just killed off the legendary fictional character who’s sold millions of books for him. But when a real-world copycat murderer starts staging murder scenes from Castle’s novels and NYPD Detective Beckett asks him for help, he feels the old blood pumping in his veins again.

In the series premiere, “Flowers for your Grave” (Monday, March 9 at 10 p.m. ET/PT), Castle is questioned by NYPD Detective Kate Beckett, a bright and aggressive detective, about the real-world copycat killer. Though they instantly clash, sparks of another sort also begin to fly, leading both to danger and a hint of romance as Castle steps in to help find the killer. Once the case is solved, Castle and Beckett build on their new relationship as they look to solve strange homicides in New York – as much fun as one can have with death and murder.

Castle is kept grounded by his Broadway diva mother, Martha Rodgers (Susan Sullivan, DHARMA AND GREG), and quick-witted teenage daughter Alexis (Molly Quinn, The Sacrifice). The series also stars Ruben Santiago-Hudson (American Gangster) as NYPD Captain Roy Montgomery, Tamala Jones (Daddy Day Camp) as Medical Examiner Lanie Parish, Jon Huertas (GENERATION KILL) as NYPD Detective Javier Esposito, and Seamus Dever (GENERAL HOSPITAL) as NYPD Detective Kevin Ryan.

NATHAN FILLION

Rick Castle on CASTLE

Edmonton native Nathan Fillion got his start starring in Edmonton Fringe Festival productions. Since that humble beginning, he has escalated to become a talented actor, starring in primetime television and films. Fillion was recently a series regular on DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES, playing Dr. Adam Mayfair, the new neighbour on Wisteria Lane and much younger husband of Katherine Mayfair (Dana Delany). On the big screen he was most recently seen in Waitress, a romantic comedy with Keri Russell.

Said The New York Times: “In Waitress Nathan Fillion plays the funny-Valentine love object of Keri Russell’s pie-baking genius, and does it so deftly you wonder why more directors of romantic comedy haven’t snapped him up.”

Fillion’s other film credits include the Universal film Slither, co-starring Elizabeth Banks; White Noise 2; Serenity, which reunited him with director Joss Whedon; and Saving Private Ryan. On television, Fillion earned an Emmy® nomination for his role in the daytime drama ONE LIFE TO LIVE and also starred in FIREFLY, the Josh Whedon series that inspired Serenity. Other TV credits include roles in the series TWO GUYS AND A GIRL, BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER, and MISS MATCH.

She can also be seen in the newest James Bond film, Quantum of Solace and in award-winning director Robert Benton’s Feast of Love, with Morgan Freeman and Greg Kinnear. Her additional TV credits include HEROES, 24, CTV’s epic miniseries WOULD BE KINGS, plus memorable recurring roles on THE CLOSER, ER and THE SHIELD.
