Noah Wyle guest-stars in the series finale of ER airing

Thursday, April 2 at 9 p.m. ET.

Since its premiere in September 1994, ER quickly became a Thursday night ratings juggernaut, both in Canada and the US, with its tear-jerking romances, gut-wrenching operations and all-star cast. The series was CTV’s #1 weekly program for eight years from 1994-2002. Recently, the return of George Clooney in this season’s March 12 episode drew 2.07 million viewers on CTV, its largest audience in more than two years. In all, the series has won 113 awards including a total of 22 Emmy® Awards, one Golden Globe and eight People’s Choice Awards.

Launching the careers of some of Hollywood’s biggest stars, notably Oscar-Winner George Clooney, ER also became a hotly coveted destination for actors, all vying to get in on the medical action. Guest stars scrubbing in during the series’ decade and a half tenure include Sally Fields, Ray Liotta, Don Cheadle, Alan Alda, Ewan McGregor, Mikey Rooney, Marlee Matlin, Thandie Newton and James Cromwell.

“For fifteen wonderful seasons, ER has done a fantastic job of keeping its finger on the pulse of its audience,” said Susanne Boyce, President, Creative, Content and Channels, CTV Inc. “ER’s connection with viewers, and ability to tackle hard-hitting topics, has made it one of the most successful television series of all time.”

In the finale episode, “And In The End, Part 1 & 2,” Gates (John Stamos) works on a young teen brought in with alcohol poisoning after playing a deadly drinking game with friends. Dr. Carter (guest star Noah Wyle) opens a new medical facility for the underprivileged in Chicago and some old friends from County General all come to show their support. It’s Sam’s (Linda Cardellini) birthday and Alex (Dominic Janes) and Gates surprise her with a special gift. Meanwhile, Carter works with an intern to save a mother in labor with twins. Alexis Bledel (GILMORE GIRLS) and Ernest Borgnine (From Here to Eternity) guest star. Parminder Nagra, Scott Grimes, David Lyons and Angela Bassett also star.

ER may be ending, but a whole new drama is just beginning. Picking up where ER left off is the brand-new series SOUTHLAND, from Emmy-Award winning Executive Producer John Wells (ER, THE WEST WING). A raw, gritty and genuine look at a police unit in downtown Los Angeles, the new, heart-pounding drama, co-starring Benjamin McKenzie (THE O.C.), takes over ER’s longstanding Thursday timeslot when it premieres April 9 at 10 p.m. ET on CTV.
