BATTLESTAR Goes Out With A Bang!

Two-hour series finale was most-watched program on specialty television last Friday –

Toronto, ON (March 24, 2009) BATTLESTAR GALACTICA wrapped the frak up on Friday night with out-of-this world numbers, becoming one of the highest rated events ever on SPACE. A massive audience of 430,000 Viewers 2+ watched as the Galactica flew off into the sunset and the remnants of civilization began their lives on a new planet. The series finale, which aired last Friday at 9 p.m. ET, ranked third behind CTV and Global in its timeslot. An encore presentation of the two-hour finale has been added to the schedule this Saturday, March 28 at 6 p.m. ET.

The series, which has been called the best show on television by TimeRolling StoneThe Chicago Tribune, and Newsday, ended on a high note as the two-hour finale episode became the most watched show on specialty television on Friday night. The series finale also created a lot of buzz online on spacecast.com, increasing daily unique visitors by more than 70% over the eight-week average.*** Fans can catch the highly-anticipated prequel CAPRICA, exclusively in Canada on SPACE in 2010.

SPACE’s original special FANDOM FORUM, which followed the series finale at 11 p.m. ET, had a strong performance with a Viewers 2+ audience of 132,000, garnering 34% more audience than its normal time slot. The first-ever live event for SPACE, hosted by on-air reporter Teddy Wilson, was held in front of a live-studio audience at CTV’s headquarters in the heart ofToronto’s entertainment district. On-air reporter Natasha Eloi reported live from Vancouver amongst a fleet of BSG fans dressed as their favourite characters from the series at a BATTLESTAR GALACTICA party throughout the FANDOM FORUM. The FANDOM FORUM also repeats this Saturday, March 28 at 8 p.m. ET.

Also a success online, the series finale brought record numbers to spacecast.com. SPACE’s live chat had more than 1000 participants during the season finale with 3,500 messages posted during the two-hour period. With the finale posted online after broadcast, video streams of BATTLESTAR nearly doubled for the season finale this past weekend, reaching record high daily page views to the site – nearly double the weekly average. Daily unique visitors increased by 70% compared to the eight-week average.***
