Legendary TV Personality Brings Iconic Specials to New Canadian Home

(TORONTO, November 25, 2008) – Barbara Williams, Executive Vice President of Content, Canwest Broadcasting announced today an exclusive three-year deal to broadcast all upcoming Barbara Walters specials on Global. In making the announcement, Williams commented, “Ms. Walters and her signature specials are beloved by fans around the world, and we are delighted to welcome her to her new home in Canada.”

“Barbara Walters Presents: The 10 Most Fascinating People of 2008” is an hour-long special highlighting some of the year’s most prominent names in entertainment, sports, politics and pop culture, will air Thursday, December 4 on Global in simulcast with ABC at 10PM ET.

Hosted by Barbara Walters, the special includes: Academy Award nominee and Grammy winner Will Smith, Three-time Academy Award nominee Tom Cruise, Tina Fey, famous for her Sarah Palin impersonation on “Saturday Night Live” and her Emmy Award-winning sitcom, “30 Rock”, political commentator Rush Limbaugh, teen sensation Miley Cyrus and record breaking Olympic Gold Medalist Michael Phelps.

The Number One Most Fascinating Person of 2008 will be announced on the program. Now in its 16th season, “Barbara Walters Presents: The 10 Most Fascinating People” has consistently been one of the highest rated specials of the year.

Toronto, ON (November 24, 2008) – Canada’s Top 6 dancers are paired with new partners and choreographers as they face two new styles of dance and perform solos in the next SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE CANADA performance episode on Wednesday, November 26 at 8 p.m. ET on CTV. Then, judge Tré Armstrong gets down on the dance floor to choreograph a step number to Gwen Stefani’s “Hollaback Girl” that the Top 6 will perform in the 30-minute SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE CANADA results show on Thursday, November 27 at 7:30 p.m. ET on CTV (visit CTV.ca to confirm local broadcast times).

Audiences welcome Mary Murphy back behind the judge’s desk with SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE CANADA choreographer Sean Cheesman alongside Tré Armstrong and Jean Marc Genereux, while choreographers Tony Meredith and Melanie LaPatin, Luther Brown, Blake McGrath and Melissa Williams return to work with the Top 6 dancers.

Toronto, ON (November 14, 2008) – The music industry’s biggest stars of today and yesterday join five-time host Jimmy Kimmel for the 2008 AMERICAN MUSIC AWARDS (AMAs) on Sunday, November 23 at 8 p.m. ET on ‘A’ (visit Atv.ca to confirm local broadcast times). The three-hour live event will be broadcast from the famed Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles. Kicking off the music extravaganza at 7 p.m. ET is a one-hour pre-show – 2008 AMERICAN MUSIC AWARDS RED CARPET LIVE – hosted by DANCING WITH THE STARS judge Carrie Ann Inaba, THE BACHELOR host Chris Harrison, High School Musical’s Corbin Bleu, PROJECT RUNWAY’s Christian Siriano and Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger.

The 2008 AMERICAN MUSIC AWARDS RED CARPET LIVE will feature an exclusive, special behind-the-scenes peek at host Jimmy Kimmel as he preps for the show, backstage access at the theatre, a special segment on the paparazzi, an all-access look at the “superstar trailer park” where the stars reside during rehearsals and on show day, all in addition to interviews with the celebs as they arrive on the red carpet. AMERICAN IDOL winner David Cook will also perform live from the Nokia Plaza during the live telecast.

First-time AMA performers Coldplay and Leona Lewis join a star-studded lineup of acts including Beyoncé, Kanye West, the Jonas Brothers, Rihanna, Alicia Keys, Christina Aguilera, P!nk, The Fray, Ne-Yo, Taylor Swift, the Pussycat Dolls and New Kids on the Block. Music icon Annie Lennox, also performing, will receive the Award of Merit, joining past honourees Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, Frank Sinatra, Neil Diamond and Gloria Estefan.

In addition to taking the stage, singing sensation Alicia Keys leads all AMA nominees with five nods, followed closely by fan-favourite Coldplay and the legendary Eagles, both up for four awards. Other nominees include Chris Brown, Rihanna, Kanye West, Mariah Carey, Lil Wayne and Carrie Underwood.

Presenters for this year’s awards ceremony include Mötley Crüe, Terrence Howard, David Archuleta, Ashley Tisdale, Demi Lovato, Bill Ray Cyrus, T-Pain and Nick Lachey.

For the second year in a row, fans in the United States decided who would go home with an award, as they voted for their favourite artists online earlier this month.

Canwest salutes achievements in Canadian Television as Official Broadcaster of the 23rd Annual Gemini Awards

With non-stop red carpet reporting, comprehensive ceremony coverage and exclusive interviews with TV’s hottest Canadian actors, Canwest is set to bring everything Geminis to viewers as the official broadcaster of the 23rd Annual Gemini Awards Broadcast Gala. Canwest will be home to the most extensive multi-channel coverage when the awards take place in Toronto on Friday, November 28th, airing on both E!, Canada’s ultimate destination for everything entertainment and Showcase at 8 p.m. ET/PT. Both channels will also air an exclusive red carpet pre-show, capturing the stars as they arrive for the big night, at 7:30pm ET / PT.

This year’s ceremony will be hosted by Director, Producer and Actor Jason Priestley. A veteran of stage and screen, Priestley continues to be one of the most versatile and celebrated talents in Hollywood both in front of and behind the camera.

THE COUNTDOWN

Viewers will have the opportunity to catch up on all their Gemini-nominated favourites when E!, Everything Entertainment dedicates the evening of Saturday, November 22 to honouring some of the Canwest programs up for an award this year. Beginning at 8 p.m. ET/PT, the evening will feature a jam-packed line-up of viewer hits including; X-Weighted, Rent-A-Goalie, Billable Hours, Kenny vs. Spenny and Cock’d Gunns.

THE CARPET

To kick off the Gemini Awards evening, Canwest will produce the ultimate Glitz, Glamour, Geminis: On The Red Carpet. Hosted by E! News Weekend Hosts Arisa Cox and Jason Ruta, the coverage begins at 7:30 p.m. ET/PT on both E! and Showcase. Top 10 dancers featured in 15-city Canadian tour –

Toronto, ON (November 13, 2008) – Tonight it was revealed on CTV that SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE CANADA’s Top 10 are taking their moves on the road for an historic, 15-city, Canadian tour. 19 Entertainment, Dick Clark Productions, AEG Live and Donald K. Donald announce the first-ever SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE CANADA Tour, which kicks off January 30th, 2009 at GM Place in Vancouver.

The SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE CANADA Tour, featuring the Top 10 dancers, will visit some of Canada’s premiere concert venues, including Edmonton’s Rexall Place (Feb. 2), Toronto’s Air Canada Centre (Feb. 13), and Place des Arts in Montreal (Feb. 14). Additional cities on the tour include Kelowna, Calgary, Saskatoon, Regina, Winnipeg, Thunder Bay, Sudbury, Ottawa, Hamilton, London and Kingston.
