April 2008

Jully Black has joined the cast of Canadian Idol as mentor, confidant, critic, coach and voice of the people to competitors. At the same time, she will pull back the curtain and take Canadian Idol viewers behind the scenes on Canada’s most-watched summer series. Black joins host Ben Mulroney and judges Farley Flex, Jake Gold, Sass Jordan and Zack Werner on the six-person cast.

Hailed by The Ottawa Citizen as the Queen of R&B “and maybe even a contender for the throne occupied by the legendary Tina Turner,” Universal Music Canada Recording artist and eTalk Celebrity Reporter Jully Black knows what it takes to be a success in the music industry. Now she brings that experience to Idol all summer long as she goes inside the rehearsal hall where the competitors’ songs are chosen, performances are refined and some of the biggest moments in Canadian Idol history are brought to life. Black will also be there for the Idol competitors as someone to look up to, learn from and gain first-hand experience with, especially when it comes to how to navigate the complicated world of show business.

“It’s a huge honor to have been asked to join the cast of Canadian Idol simply as me, Jully Black, the singer, songwriter, performer and friend,” said Black. “Sometimes all one needs is a chance and it’s a privilege for me to extend my role in helping this year’s competitors take full advantage of such a chance. I’d like to thank my ‘Shero’, Susanne Boyce, and the entire CTV family for giving me the opportunity to be the face of a new dream while helping others achieve theirs.”

“As evidenced last weekend at The JUNO Awards, Jully Black is a class act,” said Susanne Boyce, President, Creative, Content and Channels, CTV Inc. “Her own personal story of how a dream can become reality, that despite difficult odds anything is achievable, is something that will inspire competitors and audiences alike.”

“We couldn’t be more thrilled that newly minted JUNO-winner Jully is joining the Idol team!” said John Brunton, Executive Producer of Canadian Idol. “Her passion, enthusiasm, heart and soul will bring a new dimension to our show. The fit couldn’t be more perfect.”

R&B singer-songwriter Kelly Rowland has been appointed as the official 2008 Ambassador for the MTV Staying Alive Foundation. The multi-platinum selling artist and Destiny’s Child alumnus is to be the public face of Staying Alive in June 2008, dedicating herself to raising the profile of the global charitable foundation, whose mission is to empower young people who are protecting themselves and their communities against HIV and AIDS.

Rowland will take her first steps in her new role as Staying Alive Ambassador during her solo tour of Africa (20-29 June), when she takes her upbeat brand of stylish R&B to music fans in South Africa, Ghana, Tanzania, Mozambique, Kenya and Angola. Her trip will incorporate visiting Staying Alive Foundation grant recipients and grassroots projects supported and funded by the Foundation.

The news of the appointment comes as Rowland prepares for the worldwide CD release of her solo album, Ms Kelly Deluxe, on 12 May 2008. The album premieres several new tracks from Rowland including the previously-unreleased “Daylight”, featuring Travis McCoy of Gym Class Heroes, and showcases scorching remixes of Kelly’s hottest current hits including the Freemasons Radio Edit of the international smash “Work” and the Joey Negro Club Mix of “Daylight” and “Like This” (featuring Eve). The album also reprises key tracks from her original best-selling Ms. Kelly album.

Commented Kelly Rowland, ‘I am honoured to work with The Staying Alive Foundation in its mission to transform attitudes to HIV and AIDS around the world. The Foundation continues to recognize and reward young people whose relentless mission is to encourage, educate and empower their peers in the fight against HIV and AIDS. I am excited to be a part of this remarkable initiative and look forward to supporting Staying Alive in all its efforts to change the prevailing culture of ignorance which fosters and perpetuates this disease.’

Commented Bill Roedy, Vice Chairman, MTV Networks, ‘We are delighted and honoured to have Kelly Rowland as the 2008 Staying Alive Foundation Ambassador. HIV and AIDS is the worst epidemic in recorded history and yet it is preventable and treatable.

Outstanding role models such as Kelly are a huge help in raising awareness about HIV and AIDS. In turn I am sure that Kelly will be truly inspired when she visits the amazing youth led initiatives that the Foundation supports. We are excited that Kelly has agreed to lend not only her name but also her unique blend of creative energy, musical talent and relentless passion to helping us fight a disease that is a defining issue of our time.’

Founded in 2004, The MTV Staying Alive Foundation is a global public charity operating in affiliation with MTV Networks International. Its mission is to empower and support young people who are protecting themselves and their communities against HIV and AIDS.

The Foundation donates money and provides grants to youth-led initiatives committed to educating their peers about HIV and AIDS. It is dedicated to fighting stigma and discrimination and empowering young people to protect themselves against the disease. For more information log onto www.staying-alive.org/foundation

It was a mutual decision between Adam and Ryan to put the blood on Sheila’s hands and ultimately she didn’t need to know who voted which way.

Adam was feeling terrible about sending her packing but such is the game.

Ryan declares that team Christ is gone as Natalie was the leader and it wont be ressurected. Sheila says she got some real satisfaction from seeing her walk out the door. Sharon can’t believe she’s been on the block five times and still survived.

Adam had whispered to Natalie that he’d voted for her and Ryan is pissed and that if he did then he’s been thrown under the bus and there will have to be repercussions.

Ryan is pretty happy to have the HoH. Sharon is happy as well. Adam just hopes he doesn’t blow up on him.

The houseguests are so confused about the final relationship in the house. It’s crazy as they try to guess which one of them has a relationship. Ryan and Sheila wonder if they are related. Meanwhile, the guinea pigs are sisters.

Sheila wants to swear on the bible. Ryan thinks there is definitely something up with her as she’s acting weird.

Ryan is certain it’s Sheila. Ryan and Adam try to decipher things and figure out how she is connected with someone else in the house.

Sharon and Sheila wonder about who is getting put up.

When they take a look at Ryan’s HoH room Sheila is happy to see there are no photos of her to prove they are related. Ryan reads out a letter from Jen and Adam looks teary eyed.

Adam talks in a robotic voice just to annoy Sheila. Afterwards, Adam talks to Shelia who is desperate for him to show her some loyalty. Adam isn’t sure who to trust but his heart got him this far and it will get him to the end of the game.

Adam and Ryan talk but Ryan is sure he said “I voted for you”. He’s pissed that he’s not owning up to it. Adam is concerned that it might affect his game.

There is a luxury reward to see the movie “What Happens in Vegas” starring Ashton Kutcher and Cameron Diaz.

There is a bunch of other prizes including a trip to the red carpet premiere and the chance to hang out with the stars at the after party.

Ryan and Sharon and Adam and Sheila are partnered up. They need to smash bottles over the heads of their partners to find a ring inside which they then need to put on the board until the board is filled.

Ryan and Sharon get 6 dice while Sheila and Adam have 3. The odds are in favour of Ryan and Sharon as they spin the wheel to pick who wins. Who ever loses though will have to be chained together for 24 hours. Sheila and Adam again will get to spend some quality time – much to Sheila’s displeasure.

The dining table has been reduced in size once again which excites the remaining four.

Outside in the yard, Big Brother has set up a drive in movie for Ryan and Sharon, complete with cars and the big screen. Sheila is very jealous. And incredibly annoyed about being shackled to Adam shortly.

Sheila comes up to see Ryan. Ryan says he’s putting her up and she’ll have to win the PoV. If she doesn’t Adam will control who will go home.

Sharon goes to talk to Ryan and neither of them trust Adam. They need to figure out how they can put both Sheila and Adam up for eviction without revealing their secret alliance.

At the nomination ceremony, Ryan reveals that the two on the block this week are Sharon and Sheila.

See here for the voting numbers.

Natalie begs Adam and Ryan to keep her. Adam and Ryan know they control the votes and decide to call a house meeting and wants to get it all out. Adam says he wants to teach them about the fear of the Lord. They tell her that they’re having a house meeting in an hour because they want everything to come out.

Sheila wonders what the boys are up to. Everyone is called to the dining table. Natalie is not wanting to have the meeting. Adam has a bible out and Sharon is wondering why they’re doing church. They decide to go to the bathroom to have thee meeting as Natalie is in there doing her hair. They present the facts about her playing both sides of the house and want to know what’s going on as she’s promised everyone different things.

She admits that she’s with boys. She continues doing her hair. Sheila is furious that Natalie has declared her alliance as she could be in big trouble next week if Natalie gets to stay around.

Adam and Ryan talk to Natalie and she declares that she has lied to the other girls but not to them. Natalie cries about the situation with them and assures them that her loyalties have always remained with them.

Natalie talks to Sharon and confronts her about what she’s said. Sharon refuses to stand there and listen to her lies.

Adam and Ryan get into a fight with Sheila after they question the final decision. She is pissed that they might be contemplating keeping Natalie around.

At the vote, both Ryan votes for Natalie while Adam votes to evict Sharon. Sheila has to break the tie and sends Natalie home.

At the HoH game, “Fact or Fiction” after seven questions, with the most questions right and becoming the new Head of Household is, after it comes down to a tiebreaker between Ryan and Sharon, is Ryan.

Sharon isn’t bothered by being on the block as she knows the whole house is against Natalie and she has no idea that she is the target this week.

Sheila wants the girls to think she can’t stand Adam but she is in an alliance with him until the end.

Sheila is worried about Natalie winning the PoV as that would be the worst cast scenario.

While Natalie is outside sunbathing the others talk about her and wanting to get rid of her this week.

A screen is on in the living room with “Power of Veto Competition tonight”.

Sheila tells them all that they have to win the PoV. Natalie is doing the same. She has absolutely no idea what is coming.

Big Brother sends everyone to their own rooms and then calls them outside 1 by 1.

The idea is to go channel surfing and match 9 screens up to make one big picture. The fastest person will win the PoV.

Sheila gets lost looking at the Evel Dick images.

Sheila reveals the results:
Ryan 6:01
Sheila 15:30
Adam 3:20
Natalie 12:09
Sharon 4:56

Adam is so excited to have won the Veto. Natalie is so happy that Adam won the veto instead of Sharon.

Natalie, Adam and Ryan talk and Natalie say they need to get Sheila out next week and wonders why Sharon is upstairs. Ryan goes up to “break up” their party. They are committed to sending her home and she isn’t aware of it at all.

Sharon and Sheila talk about Natalie and say she isn’t very smart but she thinks she is.

Sheila lies to Natalie to tell her she is safe.

It’s Sheila’s birthday and the others set up a surprise party for her with cake and candles and streamers.

There is a card from her mom. Sheila learns that her mother has been watching the show and it’s her favorite.

Discussions take place against the final two options and if Sharon was there then she’d have at least 3 votes and because they’re going to end up upsetting their current alliances, she’d probably win.

There is a little concern with Sheila about the vote needed to be broken. She doesn’t want blood on her hands and threatens to make Adam’s life Hell if he splits the vote.

At the veto meeting, Adam takes himself off the block. Sheila nominates Natalie as his replacement.

The houseguests left hanging in the HoH competition are getting smoked. Sharon is out after only 8 minutes. Sheila really wants to win purely so she can see a photo and get a letter from her son.

Natalie doesn’t feel safe which leaves Sheila wondering who she is worried about.

Natalie is feeling good while Sheila is feeling old. After 2 hours and 6 minutes, Adam and Sharon walk inside. While they are gone, Ryan, Natalie and Sheila cut a deal to put Sharon and Adam up and decide to give the HoH to Sheila. Ryan falls out. Natalie and Sheila battle it out in front of Sharon and Adam as a bit of a play and Natalie keeps asking what Jesus would do. Sharon gets annoyed and thinks that despite reading the bible a lot, she has no idea what a virtue is.

Natalie stays up there for a while and Sheila is wondering if she has reneged on the deal. Everyone is starting to get annoyed at Natalie’s constant yapping. Natalie finally decides to drop and hands the Head of Household to Sheila. Natalie is sure she wont be screwed over by her.

Natalie talks to Adam about how he will go on the block but they’ll have to win the PoV and send Sharon home this week. Adam is mad at her though and doesn’t want to go on the block.

Sheila gets to see her son’s face in photos in her HoH room. Adam wishes that the photo of the twenty something year old Sheila was in the house as she looked really hot.

Ryan reads out Nick’s letter and she’s really stoked to have a note from him. She then reads a letter from her sister.

Adam begs for a massage from Sheila. She uses the time to talk to him about things in the house though.

Sheila talks to Adam and Sharon about wanting to get rid of Natalie.

Around the table, Sheila wants to know what turns them on. They talk about pretty faces, chests, eyes and teeth.

Sheila talks to Ryan about not putting him up but if he wins the PoV he will take Adam off the block. Ryan promises to do so.

Ryan is hearing both sides of the equation and likes his position. Sheila tells Adam that she needs to put him up because she doesn’t want Sheila to think they are in cahoots.

Sheila knows that Natalie is lying to her when she says she will be safe next week.

At the nomination ceremony, Ryan and Natalie are safe while Adam and Sharon are up for eviction.
