James Bond Gadgets and Stunts - Back-to-Back Specials on April 6 at 8 and 9pm on Discovery

It’s tuxedos and martinis as the MythBusters Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman take on 007 in two new one-hour James Bond-themed special episodes. Premiering back-to-back on Sun., April 6 at 8 and 9 p.m. ET/9 and 10 p.m. PT on Discovery Channel, these stealthy secret agents are on a mission to explode the myths about Bond’s gadgets, getaways and guns. In two episodes dedicated to the ultimate suave action hero – James Bond – they put some of the franchise’s most memorable gadgets and stunts to the test leaving them shaken, not stirred.

In the first hour, the MythBusters team tackles the electromagnetic watch featured in Live and Let Die. Can this supercharged watch actually deflect a bullet from its course? Next the team channels Casino Royale as they try to shoot a propane tank in the air and set off an explosion with a bullet from a 9mm gun – will the ammunition successfully recreate the blast from the film? The last myth of the first episode returns to Live and Let Die, this time to experiment with the thrilling speedboat scene. Could Bond’s speedboat actually survive jumping over a levy?

The second hour of MythBusters’ 007 edition puts the infamous exploding pen from Goldeneye to the challenge – does a pen contain sufficient volume for enough explosives to blow a person to “smithereens?” Goldfinger’s evil henchmen “Odd Job” is dealt with next as the team attempts to make a custom hat with enough force to decapitate a statue. The final myth tested is the jaws of steel from Moonraker. Can steel dentures actually bite though steel cable? Tune into MythBusters to determine if the technology of James Bond films is based on real science, or if it’s purely the stuff of Hollywood fantasy.
