Can a Ruthless Lawyer Become a Modern-Day Prophet? Find Out in Hot New Drama Eli Stone, Premiering Jan. 31 on CTV

– Buzzed-about drama debut follows return of hit series Lost –

— Canadian Tom Cavanaugh guest-stars as Mr. Stone in the premiere episode —

Toronto, ON (January 22, 2008) – A series of hallucinations has a high-priced attorney answering a higher calling in the new drama series Eli Stone. Starring Jonny Lee Miller (Trainspotting, Smith), the buzz-worthy drama joins CTV’s stellar midseason schedule on Thursday, Jan. 31 at 10 p.m. ET following the season premiere of Lost (visit ctv.ca to confirm local broadcast times). Exploring the balance between business and belief, Eli Stone co-stars Canadians Victor Garber (Alias) and Natasha Henstridge (Would Be Kings, The Whole Nine Yards), with a special appearance by Ottawa’s Tom Cavanagh (Ed) in the premiere episode. Can a ruthless shark become modern-day prophet? As George Michael sings in a cameo appearance, “you gotta have faith.”

From Greg Berlanti (Dirty Sexy Money, Brothers & Sisters) and Marc Guggenheim (Law & Order, Brothers & Sisters, The Practice) comes a story about a lawyer who finds himself at a crossroads in life, caught between the man he has become and the man he wants to be. Eli Stone (Miller) is an ambitious, cutthroat lawyer at a top law firm in San Francisco, who has made a successful career of screwing over the little guy. But a series of visions has Eli searching for a larger meaning in life while struggling to balance his job, fiancée Taylor (Henstridge) and what he thinks could be a divine calling. The hallucinations turn out to be an inoperable brain aneurysm, but Eli wonders if he might just be an inspired visionary.

“Eli Stone is a divine new addition to our schedule,” said Susanne Boyce, President, Creative, Content and Channels, CTV Inc. “Lighthearted and surprising, it’s an unconventional drama with broad appeal. Jonny Lee Miller is a stand-out as the title character.”

The debut episode, directed by Ken Olin (thirtysomething), finds Eli struggling to cope with his diagnosis, as he looks to Dr. Chen (James Saito, I Think I Love My Wife), a Chinese acupuncturist who believes Eli’s visions are prophetic. While Eli is skeptical of being a prophet, he recalls the words of his late father, “You’re meant to do great things… speak inspired words… you’re going to help people.” Eli redefines his outlook on life and his role as a lawyer, beginning with a case in which he represents an old acquaintance against one of his firm’s most important clients. Despite opposition from his imposing boss and future father-in-law, Jordan Wethersby (Garber) and his fiancé, Eli chooses to stay the course.

The highly-anticipated drama also stars Loretta Devine (Grey’s Anatomy), Sam Jaeger (Notes From The Underbelly), Matt Letsher (The New Adventures of Old Christine) and Julie Gonzalo (Veronica Mars). Marc Guggenheim (Law & Order) and Greg Berlanti (Dirty Sexy Money, Everwood) are co-creators and executive producers.

Toronto, ON (January 22, 2008) – Charlie is dead, the survivors are about to be rescued, and Michael returns. Who will make it off the island, and who will perish? The action-packed mystery adventure series Lost is the latest Top 10 program to return to the CTV schedule when the all-new fourth season premieres Thursday, Jan. 31 at 9 p.m. ET (visit CTV.ca to confirm local broadcast times).

Additionally, CTV invites Lost viewers to catch up on the past three seasons of the critically-acclaimed drama in the recap special Lost: Past, Present & Future on Thursday, Jan. 31 at 8 p.m. ET, leading into the season premiere. The new drama series Eli Stone premieres at 10 p.m. ET on CTV, immediately following Lost.

Finally, fans can relive all three seasons of Lost in the extended trailer “Lost In 8:15.” The fast-paced trailer, which recounts the saga of the passengers from Oceanic Air’s Flight 815 in eight minutes and 15 seconds, is available at lost.ctv.ca

“A Top 10 favourite, Lost is the fourth scripted series to premiere on CTV since the beginning of the month,” said Susanne Boyce, President, Creative, Content and Channels, CTV Inc. “After last year’s explosive season finale, this is surely the most-anticipated new season yet.”

With only 48 original episodes left until the series finale airs in 2010, this season truly is the beginning of the end, with the promise of the castaways’ rescue at hand. Jack has radioed a freighter stationed somewhere off the coast of the island. But when it’s discovered that Charlie’s dying warning was that these people may not be who they say they are, the castaways are split as to what to do.

The band of friends, family, enemies and strangers must continue to work together against the cruel weather and harsh terrain if they want to stay alive. But as they have discovered during their 90-plus days on the island, danger and mystery lurk around every corner, and those they have come to trust may turn against them. Even heroes have secrets.

The special Lost: Past, Present & Future (Thursday, Jan. 31 at 8 p.m. ET) explores the series in a way that will bring new viewers up to date – and that diehard fans will find illuminating in anticipation of the fourth season premiere episode. The special takes an in-depth look at the mysteries of both the island and its inhabitants and recaps the secrets that have been revealed, as well as those that remain a mystery.

In the Season 4 premiere episode “The Beginning of the End” (Thursday, Jan. 31 at 9 p.m. ET), with their rescue close at hand, the remaining survivors of Flight 815 don’t know whether or not to believe Charlie’s final message that the people promising to liberate them are not who they seem to be.

Season 4 stars Naveen Andrews as Sayid, Henry Ian Cusick as Desmond, Emilie de Ravin as Claire, Michael Emerson as Ben, Matthew Fox as Jack, Jorge Garcia as Hurley, Josh Holloway as Sawyer, Daniel Dae Kim as Jin, Yunjin Kim as Sun, Evangeline Lilly as Kate, Elizabeth Mitchell as Juliet, Terry O’Quinn as Locke and Harold Perrineau as Michael.

Lost was created by Jeffrey Lieber and J.J. Abrams and Damon Lindelof. Abrams, Lindelof, Bryan Burk, Jack Bender and Carlton Cuse serve as Executive Producers.
