The three-hour, star studded event is the first to be broadcast live from L.A.’s newly constructed Nokia Theatre.

Nominations for the 2007 American Music Awards see Canada’s punk-princess Avril Lavigne, fresh off her performance on Canadian Idol this summer, nominated for “Favourite Female Artist” and Canadian rock royalty Nickleback receiving a nod for “Favourite Band, Duo or Group”. Leading the pack with three nominations each are chart-toppers Justin Timberlake, Beyonce, Linkin Park and Daughtry. Following close behind are Akon, Carrie Underwood, Tim McGraw, Rascal Flats, T.I and Bone-Thugs-And-Harmony nabbing two nominations each. Rihanna and Maroon 5, who also graced the Idol stage this summer, both received nominations along with Timbaland, Fergie and John Mayer.
