September 2007

Brian Melo has been crowned the 5th Canadian Idol edging out Jaydee Bixby in this year’s season finale of the hit TV show.

Brian’s debut single, Brian Melo - All I Ever Wanted - Single - All I Ever Wanted All I Ever Wanted, will no doubt top the charts in the coming weeks as the debut singles of previous Canadian Idols Ryan Malcolm, Kalan Porter, Melissa O’Neil and Eva Avila did.

There is nothing else like it in the entire country. It’s a ticket to the top of Canadian music. For the singers that have made this journey the rewards are many and the comparisons are few. And for every idol, the top of the charts and millions of fans await. Over 30 albums and a million units sold, tonight either Jaydee Bixby or Brian Melo will join Ryan Malcolm, Kalan Porter, Melissa O’Neil and Eva Avila as a Canadian Idol.

Almost five million votes were cast last night and nearly 37 million votes over the entire season.

It’s time for the results. After nearly five million votes, Brian Melo is your next Canadian Idol.

He sings his new song Brian Melo - All I Ever Wanted - Single - All I Ever Wanted All I Ever Wanted as the confetti falls and the crowd cheers.

It’s the final performance show of Canadian Idol 2007. It’s the battle between Brian Melo and Jaydee Bixby. Who will be the next Canadian Idol?

Both Brian and Jaydee spent the week in New York with Bon Jovi Bon Jovi who have sold more than 120 million albums worldwide and are topping the charts with their new album Bon Jovi - Lost Highway Lost Highway. Tonight they will each sing three songs.

First up is Jaydee Bixby.

Jaydee Bixby
Bon Jovi - Have a Nice Day - Who Says You Can't Go Home Who Says You Can’t Go Home
I’m totally convinced that Jaydee is in the wrong reality TV show. He should have been on Canada’s Next Top Model. His singing is incredibly average but he looks like a magazine cover. Jake thought he sang it pretty will but didn’t think it was believeable. Sass thought he did what he did really well. Farley hoped it was going to be a bit more energetic. Zach compared it to a guy sitting at the lights singing along to the radio.

Brian Melo
Bon Jovi - These Days - This Ain't a Love Song This Ain’t A Love Song
Brian is clearly the better singer, better performer and more believeable. Sass thought it was really good. Farley thought it was melodramatic in the best way possible. Zach thought he sang from his heart like a real man. Jake says “Brian 1. Jaydee, no score”.

Jaydee Bixby
All I Ever Wanted – Canadian Idol Winner’s Single 2007
Another typical Idol winners song. I guess it was ok but I’ll leave my verdict until Brian has sung. Farley doesn’t think it came from where he sings from. Zach says that everyone deals with pressure in different ways but Jaydee is cracking like a bad egg. Jake thought there were some weak spots in the song but actually thought he was believeable. Sass thought he did a good job with a song that probably wasn’t his thing.

Brian Melo
All I Ever Wanted – Canadian Idol Winner’s Single 2007
A much better version than Jaydee’s. The song certainly suits Brian better. Zach thought he knocked it out of the park. Jake thought it sounded like he wrote it. Sass thought he owned it. Farley thought it was unbelieveable.

The final song is the choice of the contestants.

Jaydee Bixby
Tom Jones - 20th Century Masters - The Millennium Collection: The Best of Tom Jones - It's Not Unusual It’s Not Unusual
Seriously, this guy is embarrassing. Cabaret. Cruise ship. Karaoke. Impersonator. All these words sum up Jaydee Bixby. Anyone notice that star isn’t on that list? Jake thought it was entertaining but lacked swagger and was a little amateur. Sass thought he cut a dashing figure in the suit. Farley thought it was much closer to who he is. Zach says that if it was down to the cash, he’d be his choice to manage.

Brian Melo
Leonard Cohen - Various Positions - Hallelujah Hallelujah
Brian has had some fantastic songs this year and this is definitely one of them. Sass congratulates him on picking another fantastic song and doing a great version of it. Farley thought it was really touching and his good personality comes out when he sings. Zach thinks he doesn’t need to win because he’ll have a career no matter what. Jake loves the humilty and grace that he has and thinks he’s something truly special.

So that’s it. The songs have been sung and now it’s time to vote.

Avril Lavigne Avril Lavigne will be on the two hour grand final tomorrow night.

Here are the lyrics to Brian Melo’s winner’s single from Canadian Idol 2007

Brian Melo - All I Ever Wanted (Canadian Idol Winner's Single, 2007) - Single - All I Ever Wanted All I Ever Wanted

Slow Down
Make it last
I’m having the time of my life
And take a photograph
I don’t want to leave this behind
what seems so out of reach
we’re holding it right in our hands
Let’s give up everything
Let’s jump in and never look back
Let’s jump in and never look back

This is all I ever wanted
but life got in my way
You’re all I ever wanted
I didn’t see how it could change
That something was missing until today

The city comes alive
as soon as you walk through the door
another sleepless night
but I don’t want to sleep anymore
I don’t want to sleep anymore

This is all I ever wanted
but life got in my way
You’re all I ever wanted
I didn’t see how it could change
that something was missing until today

climbing so high
just don’t look down
we can see everything from here
for once in my life
feet on the ground
don’t want to come back down

So take a photograph
we’re having the time of our lives

This is all I ever wanted
but life got in my way
You’re all I ever wanted
I didn’t see how it could change
This is all I ever wanted
nothing will get in the way
You’re all I ever wanted
i knew that somehow it could change
I didn’t know what I was missing until today

Dick and Jameka make a deal that they will keep her in the game but if she wins HoH then she wont put them up together and they will own her vote. The deal is to take her to the final three but she has to swear on the bible. Jameka knows that all she has is her word and that this is her only shot to stay in the game.

Dick and Daniele are so excited that they’ve managed to stay to this point in the game. Daniele compares Zach to a friend who calls on your cell phone and you just ignore them and then listen to their voice mail. They think it’s time he went.

The memory wall has changed with new photos from their time in the house. They all think that the photos will have something to do with the HoH competition.

The Head of Household competition begins and the first person to answer seven questions will win. Both Zach and Daniele answer seven so there is a tie breaker question which Zach wins giving him the win. Daniele is upset that she didn’t win and thinks they should have kept Amber over Zach. The only thing that could screw anything up for them right now though is if Jameka wins the POV.

No one is too interested to go and see Zach’s HoH room for the second time in only two weeks.

Dick and Zach talk and Dick pushes for Jameka to go. Zach thinks it is time to draw his line in the sand.

Zach talks to Jameka about how he’s been playing the game by himself since he came into the game. He wants her to play her ass off for Power of Veto but he wants to put both Dick and Daniele up.

Daniele talks to Zach about the nominations and wants to know if her and her dad will be on the block. Daniele pushes for Jameka to go and says that her dad has played the best game. Zach thinks he’s played a good game but Daniele thinks it’s all luck. Zach says, all he can think about is how he can position himself in the game now. Daniele mocks and can’t believe he thinks he can win.

Daniele tells Dick that she thinks he’s going to put them both up. They’re now upset at how he begged them not roll on him. How ironic after they’ve rolled both Eric and Jessica who had a deal to the final four. Dick is pissed at the threat of not being in the position of power at the moment.

There is a new table in the dining room and it’s only big enough for four people. This is the final nomination ceremony and Zach reminds everyone that they are playing for half a million dollars. Both Dick and Daniele are up on the block. He tells them that they’ve dominated the game and he wants a level playing field. He has to win the power of veto, or next best case, Jameka. If not, the Donato’s have the game in the bag as Jameka will go home and one of them will become the new HoH.

It’s a double eviction tonight. In fact, an entire week will be played out over the next hour in Big Brother fast forward.

Dick and Daniele know that they need to get rid of Jessica this week but Eric is going to be weeping. They decide that they will tell Jameka that she’s going and then ten minutes before the eviction they’ll offer her a deal which they’re sure she will accept.

America hands Eric a huge relief when they tell him to vote for Jameka.

Eric asks Daniele if Jessica is going home but she says not to be worried because she’ll be safe.

It’s time for the first eviction and Dick and Daniele both vote for Jessica. Eric, Jessica and Jameka share a moment before Jessica walks out the front door. Dick, Daniele and Zach say nothing to her.

Eric is a little upset that they didn’t give him some warning so he could prepare.

The HoH competition begins and it’s called Before and After. Picking either before or after, the best of 8 winner is Dick. Eric is now supposed to get Daniele nominated. Dick nominates Eric and Jameka. Eric will be desperately fighting for the Power of Veto in the competition which is next.

The Veto competition is called Niagara Balls. 5000 colored rubber balls will be dropped on them and the first person to place 8 green balls into their tube will with the power of veto. Zach wins the power of veto. He decides not to use it.

The vote is made and both Zach and Daniele vote to evict Eric. Bye bye America’s player. Jameka has survived yet another eviction. At least she can play in the next HoH competition which will air on Sunday at 8/7c.

Jameka is certain that Zach has a deal with Dick and Daniele and of course, she’s right.

Jameka talks to Jessica about Zach’s speech and both of refuse to be evicted by Zach. Jameka really wants to be in the final three with her and Eric.

Daniele tells Zach that Jessica is really pissed at being put up for eviction.

Eric is upset at the way he voted last week. The whole experience is turning into a complete nightmare for him.

Jessica tells a story about how when she was a child she was asked what she wanted to be when she grew up. She answered “the first female president of the United States or a waitress”. Dick laughs and then adds perhaps a stripper of president. Daniele gets upset because she is a waitress. Dick and Daniele’s relationship is somewhat in tatters. Dick would rather have been put in there with one of his ex wives.

Eric and Jessica contemplate the next part of the game and are a little worried about the outcome of the veto competition.

Everyone is playing in the veto competition and Janelle is back in the Big Brother house to play the host. It’s called Janellovision. They each get spun around for one minute on a giant chair and then have to run down a path to a giant television screen where the faces of two houseguests are swirled together. They must guess who the two faces are and then hit a button. It’s a tough challenge. The results are:

Dick got 4 right. Zach got 6. Eric is disappointed with his 3. Jameka did even worse with 2 but Daniele got 7 right. Jessica only got 4 right which means Daniele wins the power of Veto again.

Technically speaking, based on her and Dick’s arrangement with Eric and Jessica, Daniele should save Jessica and vote Jameka out.

Eric is really worried about Jessica and is adamant he’s not going to let her leave the house.

Dick is acting like a 16 year old after getting the chance to flirt with Janelle. Eric is confident that their alliance with Dick and Daniele is still strong but Dick says that over confidence is something that has cost people a lot in the game. He then ironically says that he and Daniele hold the power in the house.

America wants Eric to imitate Dick. He has a lot of fun imitating Dick and Dick doesn’t seem to mind. The task gets completed and Dick thinks that mimicing is a great form of flattery.

Daniele and Dick are considering their position in the game and whether or not they want to get rid of Jessica, Eric or Jameka but not removing Jameka will certainly change the game for them.

The veto meeting starts and Jessica and Jameka give their case. Daniele has decided not to use the power of veto though.

I’m not confused though. It’s a double eviction this week and there are two people up. Does that mean they’re both going home or does that mean someone else is going to get a surprize?

Tonight we’ll learn who our two grand finalists for Canadian Idol 2007 will be.

First off the top three sing a Sass Jordan hit Sass Jordan - Racine - I Want to Believe I Want To Believe.

There were a massive 4.1 million votes cast last night.

Singing their new single She’s So Sorry is Hedley Hedley whose album drops on October 30th.

Ryan Malcolm’s band Low Level Flight Low Level Flight are next and perform Low Level Flight - Urgency - Say Say from their new album Low Level Flight - Urgency Urgency.

Jaydee Bixby performs Conway Twitty - The Conway Twitty Collection - It's Only Make Believe It’s Only Make Believe from the Top 10 week, Carly Rae Jepsen performs Natalie Imbruglia - Left of the Middle - Torn Torn and Brian Melo sings The Black Crowes - Sho' Nuff - She Talks to Angels She talks to Angels before we finally get to the results.

Kalan Porter Kalan Porter performs Kalan Porter - Wake Up Living - Down In Heaven Down in Heaven and starts the song off playing a violin.

The idol with the fewest number of votes and leaving this week is Carly Rae Jepsen meaning that Jaydee Bixby and Brian Melo will face off at the grand final next week.

Last week it was Paul Anka who bought 50 years of experience in the standards to the stage.

The results saw Dwight d’Eon being sent home leaving three left in the competition.

Tonight, Carly Rae Jepsen, Brian Melo and Jaydee Bixby will be singing one song that we’ve chosen for them and one from the judges for their spot in the grand final.

Tomorrow night in the hour long results show there will be performances from three artists who started on the Canadian Idol stage.

First though, the songs picked by the judges.

Jaydee Bixby
Brenda Lee - 20th Century Masters - The Millennium Collection: The Best of Brenda Lee - Break It to Me Gently Break it To Me Gently
I’m still really confused as to why the judges put Jaydee through to the finals. His musical style is about as far removed from pop as it can be. At least he sang ok on that. Jake thought that was the best singing he’s heard him do. Farley said he really took ownership of the song. Sass thinks that if he recorded that song right now it would be a hit. Zach thought that was the most real performance he’s given.

Brian Melo
Procol Harum - 60's Gold - A Whiter Shade of Pale A Whiter Shade of Pale
Of the three contestants remaining, Brian Melo has to be the most professional and best performer left. It was certainly a good song pick by the judges. Farley thought he really captured the essence of the song. Sass says he’s a born performer. Zach thinks he’s got it. Jake got chills.

Carly Rae Jepsen
Janis Ian - Between the Lines - At Seventeen At Seventeen
This is a beautiful performance from Carly Rae. Very moving and emotive. Sass thought it was pretty perfect. Zach says that this was the moving performance of the season and had such artistic value. Jake thought it was the perfect song for her and he loved her vulnerability. Farley thought it was absolutely wonderful heartfelt performance.

And now for the people’s choice:

Jaydee Bixby
Johnny Cash - 16 Biggest Hits: Johnny Cash - Ring of Fire Ring of Fire
Johnny Cash? I would have preferred to see him perform some Britney Spears. What’s with his awkward moment in the audience? Zach thought he didn’t sound like anyone else tonight and that he actually is a unique individual. Jake would have preferred to have seen him all in black with a guitar and a black hat. Farley thought it was great and Sass agrees that it was a lot of fun.

Brian Melo
Live - Awake - The Best of Live - Lightning Crashes Lightning Crashes
I can see Brian performing on a big stage in front of thousands as he’s such a rockstar. Jake says that that was actually the judges first pick and that was fantastic. Farley thinks he’s a star with his song interpretation while Sass thought he did better than the original. Zach thought he sounded a little tired.

Carly Rae Jepsen
Dido - Life for Rent - White Flag White Flag
I’m loving Carly tonight. The white lounge chair as a prop, her outfit, her phrasing. She’s just hot! Farley thought there was so much confidence and cool. Sass thought it was a stellar performance of a budding young star. Zach thinks you either get her or you don’t and he gets it. Jake liked the intimacy at the start and the overall great vocal performance.

Hedley Hedley, Low Level Flight Low Level Flight and Kalan Porter Kalan Porter will all be performing in tomorrow’s hour long results show where the two finalists will be announced.

The HoH challenge is one slippery challenge. Dick is incredibly unfit and isn’t confident of pulling off a win. Zach is desperate to win to secure his survival. Eric is falling over almost every time he starts his run down the lane.

Jessica announces that there is a smaller beaker in each of their lanes. Whoever fills it first will receive a phone call from home. Eric does it and wins a call.

Each houseguest is then offered an extra two cups but they come at a cost. Every cup that is taken means no hot water for a day. 8 cups taken means 8 days. Everyone takes the extra two cups except Zach who takes 1.

Dick is desperate to win because an hour before the eviction he really laid into Zach about his conversation with Eric about wanting to vote for Daniele.

It is a close finish but Zach beats Dick. Dick is more annoyed at the fact that Amber would have had no chance to win. Eric is torn between Jessica and Jameka but gives Jessica the phone call. Eric is really annoyed that Zach won and is worried about Zach going after Jessica.

Daniele and Dick talk and Daniele reassures her dad that she wont be up for eviction and thinks she has a lot of pull with him and that it will be Jessica and Jameka up.

Eric and Jessica talk and Eric hopes it will be him and Jameka up because he doesn’t think it will be either Dick or Daniele and doesn’t want it to be Jessica. They conspire to have a deal with Zach to the final three.

Zach calls out to see who wants to see his HoH room but everyone is somewhat despondant to go check it out.

Daniele talks to Zach and says she’s so done with her dad being around her. Zach wonders if you can really trust anyone named Dick.

Jessica asks Eric if he cast those dodgy votes. He confesses and also says he did the mustard. Jessica laughs and is kinda impressed as his game play. She asks him why he has told her now and he says it’s because he doesn’t know what is developing with them and he doesn’t want her to have any surprizes. Eric wants to scream from the rooftops that he is America’s Player but he’s not allowed.

Jessica gets her phone call and it was her brother who arrived home from Iraq on Friday. She’s incredibly emotional.

Eric gets his orders and America wants him to push for Jameka to be nominated.

Dick and Daniele talk and Daniele suggests that if Zach puts up both Jessica and Eric then they wont be to blame for one of them going home. Daniele goes to talk to Zach and says that if Jessica or Eric are around next week then he will be the one to go home. Zach admits that it’s getting to the point where he needs to trust someone.

Eric has a new task. To mimic the annoying habbits and words of one of the other houseguests. Who will it be? Spitting Dick?

It’s nomination time and Zach chooses to nominate Jessica and Jameka for eviction. I’m sure that somewhere, Amber is crying.

Jessica is upset that two people who she actually likes are on the block and one of them are going to be going home. Jessica is bothered that Dick and Daniele don’t really like her and is afraid of being stabbed in the back.

Amber comes up for a cry again. She has one reason why she thinks she should stay and that is because the nice people should win.

Dick talks to Zach who is concerned about going home. Dick tells him not to worry because he’ll be safe. Zach says two interesting things. Firstly that he’d be ok coming second as $50,000 is more than ample for what he needs to do in life and secondly, that if he wins HoH this week then he’ll be putting Jess and Jameka up for eviction with the aim of backdooring Eric. Dick says that Zach is only going home if he finds out that he tried to get rid of him.

Jameka talks to Jessica and Amber about Eric and they think that this week Eric has been playing HoH through her. They think that he’s scared of winning HoH because he doesn’t want anyone to see photos of him and his “girlfriend”. Jessica isn’t sure of thinks after Ambers few words. Jameka tells Amber that she needs to get Daniele’s vote.

Amber talks to Daniele and tries to get a favour and get her vote.

Eric and Jessica talk and Jessica is worried about what Amber has said but Eric brings up how she says she’s a good person and yet was a serious drug user with a child.

Dick talks to Eric about what Zach told him about winning HoH and wanting to backdoor Eric. Eric tells Dick about his conversation with Zach last week and Dick is pissed. Zach is in trouble but Eric is still fairly adamant that it is Amber’s time to go home.

We get to see some of Jameka’s family and church before we get to meet Eric’s family and Cheryl who is not currently in a relationship with him.

It’s time for the vote and Jameka is first and votes to evict Zach. Eric has successfully completed 17 out of 24 tasks and has earnt $30,000 so far, $10,000 for every 5 tasks he has completed. 78% wanted Eric to vote for Amber. Dick and Daniele also vote to evict Amber meaning that she is leaving 3 votes to 1 and all that talk about God showing her she would win was obviously a little off the mark. Surprize, surprize, she’s crying. Jameka is crying and even Eric seems to have shed a tear in the emotional moment. Jameka will be feeling incredibly isolated in the house now.

Amber thinks that no one wanted to sit next to her in the final and that’s why she was voted out and she blames Eric for her demise. Dick leaves a nice message to her and reminds her that it is a game.

It’s time for the next HoH competition. Who will be the next Head of Household? There is a giant Tea Pot for each house guest to stand next to. They have to pick up a tiny tea cup and transfer tea to a from their tea pot to a glass tank that has a silver ball in it. The cup can only hold 3 ounces of tea and the tank needs 16 gallons to fill it. That’s equivalent to 683 trips back and forth or 7 miles. Even if they run, it could take all night.

There’s a double eviction this next week which should make things interesting.
