The Top 8 Acoustic Performances

Last week Khalila G was sent packing. This week another one will find themselves leaving the life of luxury behind.

Tonight the Top 8 are performing acoustically.

Martha Joy
Cyndi Lauper - The Essential Cyndi Lauper - True Colors True Colors
Another precise performance from Martha. Perhaps a little more feeling but still more of the same. Jake thought it was the right interpretation but he’s still not feeling it from her. Farley thought it was solid for what she does. Sass agrees and loves what she’s wearing. Zach thought there was one really bad note in the middle of it but compares her to the little mermaid.

Dwight d’Eon
Sting - ...All This Time - Every Breath You Take Every Breath You Take
Fantastic song for Dwight. He still doesn’t have the strongest voice in the competition though. Farley applauds him for his interpretation but it wasn’t hot enough to call the fire department. Sass thought it wasn’t his best singing but liked how he changed the arrangement. Zach had a vision of him winning Canadian Idol but that vision is fading. Jake thought that he was emotionally into the song.

Jaydee Bixby
Green Day - International Superhits! - Good Riddance (Time of Your Life) Time of Your Life
Don’t you hate it when the audience is clapping along at a completely different time? Very Jaydee. Dull. Sass says that was an unpredictable performance. Zach thinks it’s dishonest to twang unless you’re from Texas and he thought it was awful. Jake didn’t think that was an honest performance. Farley says he should stick to his roots.

Tara Oram
Bryan Adams - So Far so Good - Heaven Heaven
Why Tara chose to walk down the stairs at the start of her song is beyond me. It was too distracting and would have been much better had she just been singing solemnly on a stool. Zach thought it was strong and then fell apart and thought her singing was naked cruelty. Jake thought it was an honest performance but a little shakey. Farley thought she didn’t have the control that the song needed. Sass thought that the last note made up for it.

Brian Melo
The Black Crowes - The Black Crowes: Live - She Talks to Angels She Talks To Angels
This isn’t too bad from Brian. His voice isn’t the best but it has a nice edge to it. Jake thought he was the first one tonight to know what it was to be intense and liked it way better than the Black Crowes. Farley thought he supplied his owned power and loved the intensity. Sass thought it was the first performance of the night that she was happy she didn’t have airplugs. Zach thought it was killer across the board.

Matt Rapley
Bill Withers - Just As I Am - Ain't No Sunshine Ain’t No Sunshine
Another one of those old school, overdone songs for Matt. He’s actually pretty good tonight. I can imagine seeing him performing this in a club somewhere. Farley thinks it would have been that much better if he’d slammed a little harder. Sass thought it was gorgeous like an old spiritual. Zach thinks he’s possibly the most gifted singer they’ve ever had but he wimped out. Jake thought he was going to kill those notes but he didn’t.

Carly Rae Jepsen
Natalie Imbruglia - Left of the Middle - Torn Torn
The start of this was just beautiful. The end was a little empty but overall, another gorgeous performance. Sass thought it was unforgettable. Zach says she is such a contender to win. Jake loved the start of the song and finally got the goosebumps he was looking for. Farley loves how accurate with her interpretation of the song.

Greg Neufeld
Bryan Adams - The Best of Me - I'm Ready I’m Ready
I quite like Greg’s voice this week. He does seem to be starting to grow in the competition. Zach says that nobody was in his league tonight. Jake thought it was a fantastic performance. Farley thought it was natural and organic. Sass thought he had the whole package.
