2007 Top 22 Girls Performance Show

Last night it was the turn for 11 guys. Tonight, it’s the ladies turn to turn up the heat.

Who is going to be able to connect emotionally with the song tonight? Farley thinks that it is far more important to capture the attention and win over the country now as opposed to the judges.

Zach thinks that when people vote they need to think about what connects them with themselves and what they stand for as opposed to whether or not they can sing six octaves because that’s not why you buy an album.

It’s going to be a great night of great songs. Kicking it off is Tara Oram.

Tara Oram
Martina McBride - (I Never Promised You A) Rose Garden - Single - (I Never Promised You A) Rose Garden (I Never Promised You A) Rose Garden
It certainly didn’t have the twang that we’d heard in the theatre round but it was still country. The judges all liked it. Tara converses with them during their critique and acknowledges her fans in the audience. She’s great!

Martha Joy
Aerosmith - Armageddon - The Album - I Don't Want to Miss a Thing I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing
I really like Martha’s performance. By far the best vocal performance we’ve heard from any of the top 22 so far. Farley acknowledges that she’s one of the best academic singers in the competition but would like to see some vulnerability.

Montana Martin Iles
The Used - The Bird and the Worm - Single - The Bird and the Worm The Bird and the Worm
I loved that! What an intense performance. Zach said it was the best performance he’s ever seen since he’s been on the show. What a fantastic performer. The judges just love her to bits.

Kamila Miller
Mary J. Blige - My Life - I'm Going Down I’m Going Down
Kamila is now going to be represented on Canadian Idol as Mila as to avoid confusion with Khalila. Her performance didn’t wow me. Her hair was cool and big though. Zach is all over her star vibe. Jake thought it was really empassioned. Farley thought she represented herself really well. Sass loved the joy she exuded.

Maud Coussa-Jandl
The Cranberries - The Cranberries: Stars - The Best of 1992-2002 - Dreams Dreams
Really reminiscent of The Cranberries with a nice french tone to it. Jake says she needs to find her own voice. She’s got an absolutely gorgeous smile.

Annika Odegard
Jessica Andrews - Who I Am - Helplessly, Hopelessly Helplessly, Hopelessly
I didn’t think I was going to like it, but I did. Farley thought that she didn’t take a risk. Sass thought she sang it too low. Zach thought it was a bit pageanty.

Naomi-Joy Blackhall
Whitesnake - 20th Century Masters - The Millennium Collection: The Best of Whitesnake - Judgement Day Judgement Day
The song started well and she rocked it out but the last half was pretty pitchy. The judges thought it looked great but agree it was really pitchy.

Christine Hanlon
Sarah McLachlan - Mirrorball - Possession Possession
Zach hated it. Jake thought there were some nice moments but she didn’t find the groove or get in the pocket with the song. Sass and Farley both were wondering where the edge was that they loved during her audition.

Scarlett Burke
Whitney Houston - My Love Is Your Love - I Learned from the Best I Learned from the Best
It was pretty average. She seemed fairly timid on stage and seemed as though she was holding back. The judges thought she was a little weak. Jake suggested she didn’t sing Whitney. Good call.

Khalila G
P!nk - M!ssundaztood - Family Portrait Family Portrait
It was ok. Farley loved it. Sass said she relit the fire that went out during the last three performances. Zach thought it was great. Jake thought she was in her element and was believeable.

Carly Rae Jepsen
Corinne Bailey Rae - Corinne Bailey Rae - Put Your Records On Put Your Records On
Carly is one smart girl. Sitting on a stool being accompanied by an acoustic guitarist. The judges enjoyed it. Zach is sold on her being in the top 10. Jake says she was close to tapping into the vulnerability that she showed in the top 100.
